Black & White

Opening, Artists Talk, & Awards Tonight!

Happy to be 1 of 65 artists using black and white to tell visual stories for this exhibition.

Join the artists and jurors at 6:30 pm on Thursday, Sept. 21, for a gallery talk.

Jurors Jennie Osman and Helen Kendall of the art department at University Liggett School will present awards and give one artist awarded Best of Show a solo show for the 2024-2025 Guest Artist Season in the Manoogian Gallery at University Liggett School.

The Black and White exhibition will be up through Friday, Nov. 10 at the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms.

Congratulations, again, for your acceptance into the 94th Michigan Contemporary Art Exhibition! This year marks 94 years of celebrating Michigan artists at the Muskegon Museum of Art and we are excited to continue the rich legacy of this exhibition with you and your artwork.

We hope you, your family, and your friends will join us for the Opening Reception and Artist Award Ceremony next Thursday, September 28 at 5 PM. A cash bar and snacks will be available.

Royal Oak Art Walk

The first ever Royal Oak Art Walk is this Friday evening.

Thanks to the City of RO for this brand new annual event connecting the public with downtown businesses paired with local artists.

I’m thrilled that the Royal Oak Arts Commission has paired me, Steve Miller, to exhibit a several of my favorite paintings with painter and art teacher Lisa Spatola, and Royal Oak Artist Laurette and Poet Roberta Brown. We will be sharing our work with the public at the Atelier School of Art located at 407 East Fourth Street in Royal Oak. Fri. Aug. 11 from 5-8pm. Our paintings will be on display and for sale alongside the incredible work of the instructors and students of the Atelier. Also, Roberta will be presenting an ekphrastic poetry reading and writing workshop. 

Wine and beer and refreshments will be available. Scan the QR code on the image for a map, and put it in your calendar. 🎨

Our Town Art Show & Sale

Thrilled to say that three of my large landscape paintings have been juried by Barbara Heller and Grace Sera into the Birmingham Community House’s Our Town Art Show & Sale.

Here are the details:

OUR TOWN Opening Night Party: March 30, 2023, 6-9:00 p.m. (Juried Artists attend for free)

OUR TOWN Art Show & Sale: FREE ADMISSION on Friday, March 31 & Saturday, April 1, 2023 (10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. both days)

OUR TOWN Online Exhibit & Sale: March 31 – April 15, 2023

This all media and juried art show provides a forum for Michigan artists to display and sell their work. The Show includes paintings, pastels, sculptures, glassworks, fiber, photography, jewelry, and mixed media. Artists receive sixty-five percent of the proceeds from the sale of art, while thirty-five percent goes to the programs and services provided by The Community House, a non-profit organization serving people in the community for 100 years!

Concerning Landscape

Concerning Landscape, curated by Megan Winkel, is a dual-location exhibition that explores the construct of landscape and its various forms of expression. The show at DAM focuses on conceptual interpretations featuring artists Carla Anderson, John Azoni, Helen Gotlib, Carole Harris, Kayla Powers, Sharon Que, Jocelyn Rainey, Jon Setter, and Ann Smith. A presentation of works from DAM members is on view at the neighboring Henry Ford Health’s Brigitte Harris Cancer Pavilion.

Cool Down in the Museum

Steve Miller is one of two Royal Oak artists to have work accepted into the Muskegon Museum of Art.

The 93rd Michigan Contemporary Art Exhibition continues a rich legacy of showcasing the work of Michigan artists, from talented beginners to accomplished professionals. A competitive show, the Michigan Contemporary presents a look at the issues, themes, and materials inspiring today’s Michigan artists. Featured media include painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and installation. A visitor favorite, the exhibition engages, challenges, and inspires conversation.

106th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

Unexpected Garden has been accepted to the Scarab Club’s Gold Medal Exhibition!

I’m very excited to have this painting selected by juror Mario Moore to be included in this group exhibition. The Scarab Club was founded by a group of artists in 1907. It has a rich history, for which I’d love to be a part of, starting with this exhibit.

BBAC’s 38th MFAC

Yay! My painting “Stasis Hiatus” was accepted for the BBAC’s 38th annual, 2019 Michigan Fine Arts Competition.

This will be my fourth time participating in this 5-state regional competition. Come to the opening, and see all the amazing work selected by this years Juror Jerald Melberg.
