I worked on this painting over the summer, changing my mind frequently, until I discovered this guy sitting in a little boat. Midway, I heard comparisons to Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea”, so I read the spark notes. Myths tend to be retold. However, my angle is not about man versus nature. Instead, this painting speaks to the realization that we go through the hardest times alone, searching for direction internally, guided by the dim lights of instinct and experience.
