Steve Miller is a painter who likes to visualize his emotions and capture life’s moments in his art, while using his creative powers for good. Art communities throughout S.E. Michigan and beyond recognize his work. Recently, his painting, “Trail Dreams” won 1st place in the 2018 Canvas Pontiac art competition. He is a three-time BBAC's MFAC participant, and his “Ofrenda to Robin Williams” collaboration was showcased at the Detroit Institute of Arts. My name is Steve Miller. My acrylic paintings document my life as a husband, father, and artist.
Most important to me as an artist, is to tell a relatable story within a believable space. People relate to images they can recognize, and I use that as a tool to communicate deeper feelings about the subject.
Watching my daughters grow up provides plenty of inspirational moments to paint about, and capturing those moments allows me the opportunity to reflect on the feelings of the time and honor the memory.
As a dad, I’m constantly picking up messes. As an artist, however, I see clutter as challenging compositions needing interpretation, recently painting the visual chaos that is my studio.
Sharing my observations through painting allows me the opportunity to be present, self-aware, and to challenge myself. Assigning meaning, however, is one of the most exciting parts of making or viewing art. And it always comes after the painting is finished.
